It's important to get enough sleep – in the short term, too little or poor quality sleep can impair your ability to do day-to-day functions, and in the long term, it can have major negative health effects, such as increased risk of heart disease.
The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) is a self-administered questionnaire with eight questions. It provides a measure of a person's general level of daytime sleepiness, or their average sleep propensity in daily life. It has become the world standard method for making this assessment. Most people can answer the ESS, without assistance, in two or three minutes.
